Hardwick Hall.
Hardwick Hall, and Hardwick Old Hall especially, I think is one of my favourite stately houses to visit.
The Old Hall, which was no longer needed when the Cavendish family decided they preferred Chatsworth, had it’s stone raided for building supply and then was left to decay. Left to the elements, there are traces of its old features – window frames and plasterwork – which nature has taken over and reclaimed. New life is growing in the cracks.
